You Want to Figure Out How To Know if Someone Is a Gamer
Here are a few ways you can tell along with some dead giveaways that the person you are talking to or hanging out with is a gamer.
Here are a few ways you can tell along with some dead giveaways that the person you are talking to or hanging out with is a gamer.
The most obvious would be if they are at a computer, look at their finger placement. If the natural position for their hand is to place the middle finger on either the “E” key or the “W” key, that’s a dead giveaway that the person is a gamer. If they place their finger on the “E” key, you might as well call them an elite gamer, because they have accustomed themselves to allowing their left hand all the additional keys on the left and the right, which means they have a really customized configuration file for their gaming as well. That’s not to say that someone with their home key on the “W” can’t be an elite gamer, that actually can mean their gaming mouse just has a lot of buttons and they are more comfortable using their right hand for the additional customization instead of their keyboard keys.
Many hardcore gamers have their hand positions different than people who don’t play games much. The pointer finger of someone who games often is usually slightly curved in while at a resting position. This is not a dead giveaway, since many musicians do this as well, but it is a signal to at least ask if the person is a gamer. Controller players tend to have their hand resting position to be a little more arched than keyboard and mouse players. It’s subtle, but you’ll notice if you’re looking for it.
These signs that someone is a gamer are less subtle. If they say things like “oof” or if they mention popular memes that are known mostly to the gaming community, such as “Leerooooy Jennnnnkinssss” there is an off chance that it is a coincidence, but more than likely, they are a gamer. Keep your ears open to be aware.
Keychains and doodles. If the person has a keychain, take a look for any medallions or symbols recognizable to the gaming community. Also, if their keychain has any “RGB” components, there is a good chance they are a gamer, since only gaming stores are known to carry those products. If they doodle, keep an eye on the style or characters they choose to doodle. While they may not outright draw someone from a game, they may be inspired by game artwork. One way to tell is by lettering. The lettering style choice is usually a sign, such as 3d letters or game title-inspired font choices.
